AORAKI MOUNT COOK, BALL PASS ALPINE TREK - Day 3
Ball Pass is a challenging and spectacular 3 day adventure in the Aoraki Mount Cook National Park, New Zealand.
Challenge yourself to an adventurous alpine trek, crossing snow fields, a small glacier and untracked, rugged terrain. Trek through amazing alpine scenery, surrounded by New Zealand's highest peaks and longest glaciers. Enjoy two nights in the private Caroline Hut, savouring the fabulous views of the 2000m high Caroline Face of Mount Cook, New Zealand's highest ice face. Relax in its wonderful setting on the Ball Ridge, high above the Tasman Glacier, and be awed by the ice avalanches rumbling down Mount Cook. Sunsets in this high alpine environment are incredible!
Day 3 is a pre-dawn start and takes you up Ball Ridge to Ball Pass. Use the skills you learnt on day 2 to cross scree, snow fields and glaciers to descend towards the Hooker Valley. A second climb brings you up to Mabel Col with stunning views of the Hooker Lake, Hooker Glacier and Mount Sefton. Descend past a beautiful alpine tarn down Cove Stream to Husky Flat.
